Whether you’re leaving Enterprise for a new duty station or heading across Alabama, a written moving plan beats sticky notes on the fridge. This checklist is affiliate-ready: we’ll note where truck / container / packing links can go when enrolled — no invented affiliate URLs.
Who this is for
- Homeowners and renters moving out of Enterprise, Daleville, Ozark, or Dothan metro
- PCS households coordinating sale + move overlapping calendars
- Anyone who wants a week-by-week packing structure
Affiliate & product note
This post may earn commissions from moving-related partners when those programs are enrolled and disclosed. Until then, treat truck / POD-style container / packing-supply mentions as category placeholders. Always compare quotes and read our Disclosure.
8–6 weeks out
- Confirm move date vs closing / lease-end / report date
- Declutter (sell, donate, trash) — fewer pounds = lower cost
- Request school / medical record transfer plans if needed
- Sketch floor plan of the new place; measure big furniture
- Create a shared digital folder for quotes and inventories
6–4 weeks out — choose how you’ll move
Full-service movers: best when time is scarce; get 2–3 in-home or virtual estimates.
Truck rental (category placeholder): DIY drive; compare mileage, insurance, and one-way fees. Affiliate link: when enrolled.
Portable container / POD-style (category placeholder): load on your schedule; useful if closing dates slip. Confirm driveway rules and HOA. Affiliate link: when enrolled.
Hybrid: container for household goods + small truck for last-week items.
For PCS, check whether military HHG / TMO processes apply to your orders before you double-book civilian movers.
4–2 weeks out
- Book movers / truck / container
- Order packing supplies (boxes, tape, mattress bags) — affiliate category placeholder when enrolled
- Change-of-address prep; note USPS forward start date
- Notify insurer of move date; ask about vacant-home rules if sale lags
- Inventory high-value items with photos
Final week
- Confirm utility stop/start (power, gas, water, trash, internet)
- Defrost freezer; use up perishables
- Set aside “first night” box: sheets, toiletries, chargers, meds, basic tools, kid/pet gear
- Confirm closing walk-through vs load-out timing (see closing-day guide)
- Verify wire / cashier’s check instructions by phone if funds move
Move day
- Protect floors and door frames
- Supervise load; check inventory sheets before you sign
- Final sweep: attic, shed, garage rafters, mailbox key, remotes
- Lock up; hand keys per contract / landlord instructions
After you arrive
- Photograph condition of new place on arrival
- Update driver license / vehicle registration as required by your new state
- Update banks, employers, DEERS/TRICARE as applicable
- Recycle packing materials; note any mover claims deadlines
